Beautiful music. Breathtaking spectacle. La Traviata under the stars.
For three weeks only in March 2012 Opera Australia will perform La Traviata on a shimmering stage, afloat on Sydney Harbour. Fireworks, a harbour stage and a giant chandelier will transform opera in Sydney like never before.
Extravagant and devastatingly romantic, La Traviata is perfect for first-time opera-goers.
This monumental production features a forty-piece orchestra, magnificent sets, beautiful costumes, dazzling effects, and a 9-metre chandelier suspended above the purpose-built floating stage. The Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and city skyline provide the spectacular backdrop.
The production will be directed by internationally-acclaimed director Francesca Zambello, and designed by Brian Thomson (who recently designed Bliss and La bohème for Opera Australia).
The great Giuseppe Verdi's sumptuous music will be performed by a stellar cast, including sopranos Emma Matthews and Rachelle Durkin, tenors Gianluca Terranova and Ji-Min Park, and baritones Jonathan Summers and Warwick Fyfe. The orchestra will be conducted by Opera Australia favourite Brian Castles-Onion.
Experience the magic from our specially-built venue at Fleet Steps, the Domain (adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney).
