WotOpera 2009

In 2009 Opera Australia expanded the program to include Rockhampton and Sydney. 20 students from schools in each city worked closely with professional performers and musicians from Opera Australia led by Project Director Murray Dahm. The Rockhampton school workshops commenced on 11 May 2009 and Sydney school workshops commence in August 2009.

The five schools participating in the Wot Opera project in Rockhampton were Capricornia School of Distance Education, Eammus College, Glenmore State High, North Rockhampton State High and Mt Morgan State High Schools.  On completion of the workshops the four schools will came together at the Pilbeam Theatre on 5 June to present their pieces before an audience.

The schools participating in the WotOpera project in Sydney are Campbelltown Performing Arts High, Holroyd High, Newington College and Thomas Reddall High School. On completion of the workshops the four schools will come together at Parramatta Riverside Theatre on 23 September to present their pieces before an audience. 

WotOpera is made possible by the generosity of Graeme Wood, founder of Wotif.com and Suncorp 2008 Queenslander of the Year.  The Capricornia School of Distance Education is also being supported by the Queensland Department of Education and Training as part of the Year of Creativity, Connellan Airways Trust and the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association of Australia.
