WotOpera

WotOpera is an opera education initiative that provides secondary students from participating schools with the opportunity of creating an original opera and being involved in all aspects of its creation from conception through to performance.

WotOpera challenges participating students to create an opera from page to stage in only four weeks.

In 2010 the program has expanded to include Bendigo, Sydney and Launceston. Twenty students from each school will participate in; character development, plot creation, writing the libretto, composing the music, casting, painting the backdrop, and performance.

WotOpera Launceston: 5 July - 3 August 2010

Students from Scotch Oakburn, Exeter, Queechy and Brooks High Schools will participate in WotOpera this month.

Come, share the journey as the curtain goes up on four original operas at 7:30pm on Tuesday 3 August at the Princess Theatre, Launceston.

WotOpera Sydney: 24 May - 24 June 2010

WotOpera Sydney finished on 24 June with a performance at the Riverside Theatres.

Participating schools were Glenmore Park, Merrylands and Miller Technology High Schools and MLC Burwood.

 

WotOpera Bendigo: 21 April - 17 May 2010

WotOpera Bendigo finished on 17 May with a performance at the Capital Theatre. Read about the process and see the photoessay here

Participating schools were Victory Christian College, Eaglehawk Secondary College, Bendigo South East Secondary College and CreateAbility participating through the Youth Arts Network.
