Stephen Sondheim
Stephen Joshua Sondheim (born March 22, 1930) is an American musical and film composer and lyricist, winner of an Academy Award, multiple Tony Awards (seven, more than any other composer), multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize for Sunday in the Park with George.
His most famous scores include (as composer/lyricist) A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods and Assassins, as well as the lyrics for Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story and Gypsy.
Tim Burton's screen adaptation of Sweeney Todd, starring Johnny Depp, was released in 2007 to critical acclaim and in 2008 Stephen Sondheim received a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
