Figaro loves Susanna. The Countess thinks she still loves the Count. Cherubino loves anything in a skirt and as for the Count, love is not quite the right word for how he feels about Susanna. Confused? You will be in this crazy day of match-making and breaking. Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro has been described as a near perfect opera. Words and music come together, brilliantly, in a comedy spiced with the politics of revolution.Stepping into the title role we welcome Teddy Tahu Rhodes, and watching his every step is Peter Coleman-Wright as Count Almaviva. Taryn Fiebig makes her role debut as Susanna and Rachelle Durkin is the Countess. Houston Grand Opera's music director, Patrick Summers conducts this outstanding cast. Later in the season, you can hear Tiffany Speight as Susanna, Amy Wilkinson as the Countess, José Carbó as the dastardly Count, with Shane Lowrencev and Richard Anderson singing their first Figaros with Stephen Mould and Anthony Legge conducting.
Performed in Italian with surtitles.
Running time: approximately three hours and twenty minutes including one twenty minute interval.
