MICHAEL BLACK (CHORUS MASTER)

 

Background: Graduate of Sydney Conservatorium and UNSW with degrees in Education, Performance and Musicology. Recipient of a 2007 Churchill Fellowship, 2005 Green Room Award, Opera Foundation Bayreuth Scholarship and Sydney University Staff Research Grant. Chorus Master of Opera Australia since 2001. Prepared more than 100 operas, operettas and symphonic choral works. Made his US debut as Chorus Master this past year when he filled the position of Chorus Master at Lyric Opera of Chicago for their 2011-12 season. Formerly Chorus Master for Sydney Philharmonia Choir, the Sydney Motet Choir, Cantillation and Opera Holland Park (UK). Regular collaborator with SSO as a guest Chorus Master for symphonic choral works. His work as Chorus Master has been seen in cinemas around Australia in Der Rosenkavalier, Rigoletto, Mikado, Le nozze di Figaro
