Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist Program
The Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist Program of Opera Australia is a year-long training program for selected young Australian opera singers, conductors and repetiteurs to strengthen and supplement their already evident talent and performance skills. By becoming involved closely with the rehearsal and performance activity of Opera Australia, these talented young artists are able to develop under the tutelage of more experienced opera artists.
Young Artists achieve these aims in regular individual coaching sessions with leading vocal consultants, by attending workshops and masterclasses and by participating in a wide range of performance opportunities such as recitals, concerts, roles and covers. The Young Artist Program is tailored individually to suit the needs of the participants and, overall, provides the opportunity for young singers to concentrate fully on their careers.
As a supporter of Opera Australia, you have the opportunity to see these young artists in action in a series of free recitals that take place before select opera performances in the Sydney winter season. In 2012 the series of pre-show recitals draws inspiration from a famous poem by Verlaine, “The Exquisite Hour”. How better to describe four programmes of pure music making with some of the most exciting new operatic talent that Australia has to offer. Verlaine’s poem receives a musical setting by Venezuelan-born composer Reynaldo Hahn whose beautiful songs are a feature of the series along side those of Franz Schubert and the exciting ‘Gipsy Songs’ of Antonin Dvorak. The series also includes new compositions by up and coming Australian talent, James Wade.
