Opera Australia is committed to the rights of all people who wish to attend our productions and events.
In view of this commitment, we are currently undergoing a website redevelopment project that will ensure that our website is accessible to as many people as possible. In the mean time, a guide to viewing this website according to your personal needs is provided below.
A brief overview of our accessible options and links to our venue’s accessibility guides are also listed.
If you have any concerns or questions about this information or the services provided, please do not hesitate to contact us in Sydney on 9318 8200, Melbourne on 9685 3700 or by emailing ticketing@opera-australia.org.au.
Depending on the browser you use, your page format can be altered to make online viewing easier.
Internet Explorer
Open the 'Options' window from the main menu and select 'Advanced'. From here, go to the 'General' tab within the 'Advanced' section to view accessibility adjustment features. You can also select 'Content' from within the 'Options' menu to adjust fonts and colours and remove background images. Read Mozilla's accessibility guide for Firefox here.
A direct link tool bar at the top of the page allows users to navigate efficiently around the site. By hovering your mouse over the menu options a list of quick links to sub-pages will appear.
The site map is also a basic quick link navigation tool for text-based viewers. This is linked to in the footer of every page.
Opera Australia endeavours to make all links text-based, in this format links are friendly for users viewing the page with or without style settings. We apologies that thumbnails for rich media content are not currently text-based.
We have seating available with level access, as well as a number of wheelchair and companion seats within each performance. We recommend finalising your booking for accessible and companion seating early. To request accessible seating, please contact the Box Office in Sydney on 9318 8200, Melbourne on 9685 3700 or by emailing ticketing@opera-australia.org.au
FOR PEOPLE WITH VISION IMPAIRMENTS
For those with visual impairments, Opera Australia, in association with Vision Australia, have scheduled audio-described performances of all of the productions in 2013. Description is relayed by trained describers via a discreet headset linked to an infrared audio system. When booking, please let us know the number of headsets you require. The headset should be collected before the performance from the Customer Service Desk. Audio-described bookings can only be made through Opera Australia directly by calling the Box Office in Sydney on 9318 8200, Melbourne on 9685 3700 or by emailing ticketing@opera-australia.org.au
FOR PEOPLE WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENTS
Surtitles allow those with hearing limitations to follow the libretto (text) in real time. The surtitle screen is located above the stage, and can be seen from most of the seats in the theatre. Please ensure when booking tickets that your seats have a view of the surtitles.
